The Track and Field Programs Earn Three Medals on the Second Day of the AAC Outdoor Championships

Tampa, Florida – Three medal winners highlighted the action for Tulane's outdoor track & field programs on the second day of the AAC Track & Field Championships on Saturday at USF's Track & Field Stadium. The team also totaled three qualifiers for Sunday's 800m finals. The men's team is in seventh place overall with eight points, while the women are in fourth place with 32 points. The women are also only two points from third place.
Mackenzie Callahan was the team's top finisher on the day in ranking as the runner-up in the 3,000m steeplechase. Her run of 10:29.20 just missed her own school record in the event and earned eight team points. Allie Nelson ended up fifth in the event with a time of 10:35.51 for three team points. Her time is the third-fastest ever recorded at the school in the event.
Maren Butler had the second-best throw in school history in the shot put with a 15.65m/51'4.25" to pick up All-AAC honors. The throw placed her third overall in the event and counted for six points in the team standings. Bella Gonzalez placed 14th with her 12.17m/39'11.25". Alyssa Dismuke earned 15th with a 10.70m/35'1.25".
Margot Temines led the team's competitors in the Heptathlon. She picked up All-AAC honors for the second time in her career with her 5,515 points as she finished third overall and earned six team points. Kristen O'Handley entered the 800m with an 89-point lead in the competition, but an injury forced her to not be able to start. She dropped to seventh overall in the final standings with 4,921 points. She still was able to earn a pair of team points for her finish. Laura Fodor earned eighth place with 4,858 points to pick up a team point.
Arturs Lapins took sixth in the men's 3,000m steeplechase with his run of 9:15.77 to earn three points for the men's squad.
O'Handley finished third in the Heptathlon long jump with her leap of 5.74m/18'10". Temines earned fourth with her 5.70m/18'8.50". Fodor placed sixth with a 5.53m/18'1.75". Kaia Todd took eighth with her 5.44m/17'10.25".
Temines finished third in the Heptathlon javelin with a throw of 38.27m/125'6". O'Handley placed eighth with a 32.29m/105'11". Todd took 12th with a 28.28m/92'9". Fodor earned 13th with her 28.26m/92'8".
Fodor was the team's highest finisher in the Heptathlon 800m with a run of 2:22.70. Temines took ninth with her 2:29.08 run. Todd took 11th with a 2:32.41.
In the preliminaries of the women's 800m, Victoria Robinson qualified for Sunday's final by placing second in her heat with a time of 2:08.18. Her run ranks her fifth all-time at Tulane in the event. Janae Dean also qualified for Sunday's finals in the event by rankings second overall among competitors with a 2:09.27. Her run ranks her seventh all-time in the record books. Abigail Heck finished 15th in the preliminaries with her 2:13.92.
The preliminaries of the men's 800m saw Roman Schrader qualify for the Sunday's finals as he took seventh with a 1:51.23. His run was a personal best and the sixth-best all-time at Tulane. Zander Dunbar earned 11th with a personal-best 1:52.86. His time ranks him ninth all-time at Tulane in the event. Jalen St. Fort took 13th (1:53.43) in the 800m, while Bethwel Tum placed 20th (1:59.33).
Bradley Makuvire finished ninth in the men's 10,000m with his run of 31:47.50. He finished just out of medal contention with the mark.
In the men's Decathlon, Francisco Roman III took 11th overall with 4350 points. He placed 11th in the 110 hurdles (19.88), the javelin (35.27m//115'8"), the 1500m (5:46.94) and the pole vault (2.45m/8'0.50") plus 12th in the discus (16.09m/52'9").
