
Bowling’s Amelia Vasquez Selected To CSC’s Academic All-District ® Team

Greenwood, Indiana – The Tulane bowling program saw Amelia Vasquez honored nationally as a member of the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District ® Women's At-Large Team, the organization announced this afternoon.
Vasquez is the first Tulane bowler that has ever been chosen as Academic All-District by CSC.
In order to be a member of the CSC's Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete needs to have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or above, be a sophomore or higher in academic class plus are required to have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions this season.
The College Sports Communicators, formerly the College Sports Information Director of America, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes at-large honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Vasquez, as an Academic All-District ® honoree, now advances to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees are set to be announced on June 22.
During the 2022-23 season on the lanes, Vasquez completed 1087 frames (690 baker, 397 team). She had a baker average of 197.9 plus a traditional average of 192.1. Her strike percentage was 45.4 and her make-able spare percentage was 79.9. Vasquez was named to the All-Tournament Team and the MVP at the Rattler Classic to open the campaign.
Vasquez has been a member of the Academic Honor Roll in the Southland Bowling League (SBL) in each of her first three seasons. She was a National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) All-Academic choice in both her sophomore and junior seasons. In 2020-21, Vasquez was chosen by the NCBA Collegiate as Scholar Athlete.
The psychology and design major with a minor in strategy, leadership and analytics graduated from Tulane University in May 2023.
Earlier this month it was announced that the Tulane bowling program is changing leagues and will now be a member of Conference USA starting with the 2023-24 campaign.
The 2022-23 Tulane bowling roster featured Katharina Mente, Jenica Baron, Morgan Gitlitz, Vasquez and Yarelis Alvarez, Cassidy Williams, Sofiia Druchyna and Mia Stolakis.
During the 2022-23 season, Gitlitz led the team with 7,992 total pins. Vasquez had the highest average on the squad at 195.8, while Stolakis recorded the highest individual performance with her 266 against UMES (10/15). Tulane sported an overall 71-51 record this season.
