May 5, 2023 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – Headed into her fourth season with the Green Wave women's basketball team, Janet Butler has been promoted to Assistant Coach as announced by head coach Lisa Stockton on Friday. Butler will replace former Assistant Coach Chandra Dorsey who stepped down to pursue other opportunities in athletics.
"I am so grateful for Chandra's commitment to our program over the past three seasons," Coach Stockton said. "She will always be a part of our Tulane family."
Butler, an Eros, Louisiana native, has been with the Green Wave since the 2020-21 campaign serving as the Assistant Director for Student-Athlete Development and Video.
"I am incredibly humbled and grateful for the opportunity to step into the assistant coaching position here at Tulane," Butler said. "Being a part of the entire Tulane Green Wave family here in New Orleans over the last three years has been nothing short of amazing. Coach Stockton has solidified her name with the greats of women's basketball coaches during her tenure at Tulane, and it is a dream come true to work alongside her and the rest of our amazing staff every day. I'm looking forward to continuing the tradition of success both on and off the court for this program and for our student-athletes."
During her first three seasons with Tulane, she has helped the Wave reach the postseason every season with three consecutive trips to the WNIT in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
"Janet has been an important member of our staff for the past three years," Coach Stockton said. "I'm excited to have her move into a coaching role. Janet's relationships with our current team as well as her experience recruiting and coaching make her a great fit for this position".
Prior to joining the Green Wave Butler had coaching stints at the University of Nebraska Omaha, Monmouth University, the University of Nevada, and the University of Louisiana Monroe. In her coaching experience she has also worked with recruiting, marketing, operations, and as an academic liaison.
Tulane will return eight players from last season's roster for the 2023-24 season including 2023 American Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team selection Kyren Whittington. The Green Wave have added two freshmen, 6-3 center Lily Beth Ba and 5-8 point guard Joy Madison-key along with 6-2 graduate transfer Hannah Pratt.
