Dec 30, 2024 | Women's Basketball
IRVING, TX – Tulane's Sadie Shores and Amira Mabry both earned American Athletic Conference honors on Monday following the Green Wave's outstanding 91-71 win at Florida Atlantic on Sunday.
Â
Shores scored a season-high 16 points (6-for-10 from the field) while going a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc in the conference opener for both schools to win the conference's Freshman of the Week award. Shores added six rebounds and another season-high of five assists.
Â
This is the fourth time that Tulane has won the league's top rookie honor. Kendall Sneed captured it on November 25, December 2 and December 23.
Â
Mabry collected her second 20-point double-double in as many outings to be named to the AAC's Honorable Mention list. She tallied a career-high 26 points to go with 11 rebounds and made 12 of her 18 shots from the field. She has averaged 23.5 points in her last two contests for the Green Wave.
Â
Her point total Sunday was the most in a Tulane conference opener in at least 20 years.
Â
The Olive and Blue (8-4, 1-0 AAC) will host Rice at 2 p.m. on Wednesday inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The Owls (7-6, 0-1) held a 56-50 home lead over South Florida through three quarters on Sunday but gave up a 13-0 run to start the fourth period and eventually fell 74-64.
