
Sophia McNerney Named the AAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane's Sophia McNerney was named the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Indoor Track Athlete of the Week on Feb. 20, the league office announced.
McNerney won the mile at the LSU Twilight Meet this past weekend with her time of 5:01.50. She also placed third in the 800m with a 2:16.19 (2:14.64 adjusted).
It is the first time since 2019 that a Tulane student-athlete has been named the AAC Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week.
She is the seventh different Tulane woman to earn an AAC Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week honor since 2014 and it is the 10th time overall (Sophia McNerney – Feb. 20, 2024, Rebekah Markel – Feb. 12, 2019, Bridgid Selfors – Feb. 20, 2018, Jessica Duckett – Feb. 21, 2017, Alyssa Applebee – Feb. 14, 2017, Lilla McMillian – Feb. 16, 2016, Lilla McMillian – Feb. 2, 2016, Emily-Kathryn Hoey – Feb. 24, 2015, Lilla McMillian – Jan. 13, 2015 and Lilla McMillan – Dec. 16, 2014).
Next, the program competes in the 2024 AAC Indoor Track & Field Championship from Feb. 23-24 in Birmingham, Alabama at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
