Salsberry Shines at LSU Alumni Gold

BATON ROUGE, La. – In a pair of events at the LSU Alumni Gold, Cara Salsberry delivered two top-10 performances Saturday at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium. Her highlight came with a victory in the hammer throw.
Salsberry came close to breaking the school record for the hammer throw in a third-straight week, but her mark of 59.03m today fell just shy of the 59.94m that she hurled last week to set a new program best. Her distance today was good enough to top the leaderboard at the meet. She also competed in the discus, delivering a mark of 50.25m to place sixth. Already owning the second-best mark in program history, she improves upon that as she inches closer to the record of 55.27m (Jelena Jurlina, 2004). Presley Wolfe was originally scheduled to compete in the pole vault, but she did not start.
After a light weekend for the Green Wave, the program will be back in action next weekend for the final tests before the American Conference Outdoor Championships. Tulane will split for the weekend with part of the team traveling to College Station, Texas, to compete in Texas A&M's Alumni Muster. That event takes place on May 1 and 2. Another portion of the team will return to Baton Rouge for the LSU Invitational, which will be another one-day meet that takes place on Saturday, May 2. From there, the program will get a week off before taking on the conference championship meet.
