Mar 10, 2024 | Men's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University men's tennis (3-9) came up short Sunday dropping its third match against a conference opponent this season to South Florida (7-9) 4-3 at City Park Tennis Center. The Green Wave was unable to maintain the momentum of an early lead as the Bulls came back in singles to take the match.
Tulane fell behind to begin doubles competition but battled hard on the courts to claim the point for the Wave. Alex Bancila and Luc Hoeijmans fought back from an early deficit to claim a 7-5 win on court one before Benji Jacobson and Billy Suarez outlasted the Bulls on court two to secure the double point with a 7-6 win in a tiebreak.
Momentum shifted into the Bulls favor in singles action as Tulane dropped the points on courts two, four, and five to fall behind 3-1. Rafael de Alba pulled the Green Wave back into the match with a two-set win (78-66, 6-4) on court six to make the score 3-2. However, South Florida claimed the match victory on court one in a hard-fought three-set match by Suarez. Luka Petrovic added one more point to the scoreboard for the Wave by winning a tiebreak for the third set to make the final score 4-3.
The Green Wave will be back in action on Monday at noon to take on UNO at the City Park Tennis Center.
