
Wave Advances to AAC Quaterfinals Over UTSA

TULSA, Okla. – Luka Petrovic sends Tulane University men's tennis (8-14) to the American Athletic Conference Championship quarterfinals with a 4-2 victory over the seven seed UTSA (10-10) on Thursday. With the win the Green Wave has reached the quarterfinals of the AAC Championship every season since joining the league prior to the 2015-16 campaign.
Tulane improves to 8-6 in the AAC Championship and 5-1 all-time against UTSA.
The Wave got off to a strong start against the Roadrunners taking the doubles point to claim a 1-0 advantage. Luka Petrovic and Sam Scherer got the first victory in doubles action to improve to 10-3 as a pair this spring. The 73d-ranked duo of Alex Bancila and Luc Hoeijmans followed with their team-high 11th win of the spring to clinch the doubles point for Tulane.
UTSA responded quickly to open singles play winning on court three in two sets to even the score 1-1. The Wave briefly reclaimed the lead after Rafael de Alba won the point on court six in two sets. After the Roadrunners tied the match again at 2-2, Fynn Kuenkler put Tulane back in front 3-2 with a two-set victory on court five.
The outcome of the match ultimately came down to courts two and four as each court entered a third set. Petrovic took advantage of the moment cruising to a 6-0 win in his third set on court two to clinch the 4-2 victory for the Green Wave.
Up next, Tulane will face the No. 2 seed SMU in the quarterfinals of the AAC Championship on Friday at 10 a.m.
