Two Green Wave Pairs Named AVCA Top Flight Award Winners

NEW ORLEANS – After a record setting season Tulane University beach volleyball has two pairs named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top Flight Award winners, the AVCA announced Thursday. Samantha Green and Skylar Ensign garnered the honor at Flight 4 while McKenzie Cutler and Amelia Mullen earned the award at Flight 5.

Green and Ensign posted a program record 32 victories this spring finishing with a 32-6 overall record. The duo was 29-6 overall at flight four while tallying two nine-match win streaks and one winning streak of seven matches. Green and Ensign earned wins against five ranked opponents this spring including three in a row at the Beach Burrow Bash (No. 14 FIU, No. 18 FAU, No. 16 Stetson) and one in the Conference USA tournament over 14th-ranked FIU again. The pair was also named CUSA All-Tournament after going 4-0 at flight four in the tournament.

Cutler and Mullen shined at flight five all season for the Green Wave posting a 26-9 overall record. The pair also tallied five victories against ranked opponents including No. 4 Cal Poly, No. 5 TCU, No. 14 FIU, and twice against No. 18/19 FAU. The second win against 19th-ranked FAU clinched Tulane's berth in the CUSA Championship match.

Tulane was one of two programs in Conference USA to have two pairs receive the award. Missouri State also had two pairs earn Top Flight recognition.

The Top Flight program, now in its sixth year, recognizes beach pairs who compete in at least 15 matches together at a specific flight and win at least 75% of their matches. This year, 53 pairs representing 31 schools—from all three NCAA divisions, NAIA and Two-Year Colleges—have earned Top Flight status.
