
Swimming and Diving Adds Eight To The Program For 2025-26

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane swimming and diving team announced on Wednesday that the program is welcoming eight student-athletes for the 2025-26 season.
The group hails from five different states (Florida, Indiana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Illinois) and three different countries (United States, Canadian province British Columbia, and Sweden).
The eight members are Danielle Barberie (Nanaimo, British Columbia/Nanaimo District Secondary School), Libby Brewer (Fort Washington, Pennsylvania/Germantown Academy), Nicole Fant (Jasper, Indiana/Jasper High School), Casey Freeman (Chapel Hill, North Carolina/East Chapel Hill High), Ebba Holgersson (Norrkoping, Sweden/Helsingborgs Simsalliskap), Mary Kate Kupsky (Bear Creek Township, Pennsylvania/MMI Preparatory School), Samantha Schoenborn (Parkland, Florida/Broward Virtual School) and Marin Shimkus (Glenview, Illinois/New Trier High School).
"We are so excited to welcome these women into our program," Coach Caldwell stated. "This is an amazing group of freshmen swimmers and divers coming in during the fall. Collectively they will expand our program in areas of talent and depth to continue our pursuit of success in the pool, classroom, and the community. I want to thank my assistants, Canaan Campbell and Justin Moser, for working tirelessly this past year in growing our class of 2025. We are looking forward to getting everyone on campus and united to drive this energy through the 25-26 season."Â

Danielle Barberie (Nanaimo, British Columbia)
Nanaimo District Secondary School / Nanaimo Riptides Swim Team
Barberie made the switch from the national level artistic swimming to competitive speed swimming starting with the 2022-23 season. She was the provincial high school champion in the 100 breast in 2023. Barberie earned the bronze in 200 breast and a silver in the 100 breast at the Canadian Western Championships in the 2024. She took fourth in the 18 and under (junior) category in the 200 breast at the 2024 Canadian Olympic Trials.

Germantown Academy
Brewer is a diver that was a 2024 Eastern Diving Champion, an AAU National Semifinalist, a USA Zone qualifier, a USA Junior National qualifier, a USA Junior National Semifinalist, a 2022 Inter Academic League champion, and a high school diving All-American. She place 10th in the 1-meter and 11th in the 3-meter at the 2024 AAU Nationals and 10th in the 1-meter at USA Nationals.
Nicole Fant (Jasper, Indiana)
Jasper High School / Jasper Aquatic Wildcats
Fant was the 2024 SIAC Conference Swimmer of the Year, a four-time SIAC Conference Champion, a two-time school and sectional record holder, an 11-time IHSAA Sectional Champion and a two-time Indiana High School State Athletic Association (IHSSA) State Finalist.

East Chapel Hill High / YMCA of the Triangle Area Swim
Freeman was a 2022 and 2023 US Paralympic Nationals' Gold medalist in the 200 backstroke. In 2023 and 2024 she was a Scholastic All American and a finalist in five events at 2024 US Paralympic Trials. She earned fifth in the 400 free final and sixth in the 50 free at the event. She was part of the United States Paralympic emerging team and earned the standard in the 400 free final at the 2024 World Para Series. She qualified for 2020 Paralympic trials at age 14. She made the finals in every event at the 2024 Paralympic World Series and finished second in the 400 freestyle, ranked 33rd in the world in the 100m backstroke and ranked 34th in the world for the 400 freestyle.

Ebba Holgersson (Norrkoping, Sweden)
Helsingborgs Simsallskap / Filbornasknolan
Holgersson was part of the Youth Swedish National Team in the medley in 2021 and the breaststroke in 2023. She swam at the European Youth Championships. In 2023, she also won medals from as part of the Swedish National Team both individually and in the relay. Holgersson attended swimming secondary school the last five years. She intends to major in either economics or engineering at Tulane.

Kupsky is a four-time state of Pennsylvania medalist. She was a Junior Nationals qualifier, ranked as the No. 25 recruit from the state, and was also a member of the MMI Cross Country Team.

Samantha Schoenborn (Parkland, Florida)
Broward Virtual School / Pine Crest Swim Team
A three-time FHSAA Division IA State Finalist in both the 200 IM and the 100 Back, Schoenborn was recognized in 2023 as a National All-American in the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay. She was named by the Sun Sentinel as All-County in the 200 Medley Relay, 200 IM, and 100 Back in 2023. She earned Miami Herald All-Broward First Team honors in the 200 IM, 200 medley and the 200 free relay. Schoenborn earned Second Team honors form the Sun Sentinel in the 200 IM and the 100 back and First Team recognition in the 200 medley relay. A 2022 Miami Herald All-Country First Team in the 400 free relay. She was selected by the Sun Sentinel All-Country in the 200 medley relay. Schoenborn was ranked as top-50 recruit in the state of Florida and achieved time standards for several national championship meets. She also qualified for multiple finals in various events.

Marin Shimkus (Glenview, Illinois)
New Trier High School / NASA Wildcats
Shimkus was a B finalist at Winter Juniors in 100 back and the state champion in 100 back. She is a four-time All-American, a six-time All-State selection, and a three-time CSL all-conference recipient. She led off her 2023 high school state winning 200 medley relay and helped the team get second in the 400 free relay that same meet. At Winter Juniors, Shimkus helped the 200 free relay obtain fourth place and finish the NCSA in second. She had multiple top 10 state finishes and holds three different meet records.

Tulane will return home on Jan. 25 for a dual meet against Little Rock at 11 a.m. The team wraps up the home schedule and regular season by hosting West Florida on Feb. 1 at 1:30 p.m. The 2025 AAC Swimming Championship will be held from Feb. 19-22 in Dallas, Texas at SMU.
