
Football Earns 35-24 Homecoming Victory Over Florida Atlantic

NEW ORLEANS– The Tulane football team (8-2, 5-1 American) earned a thrilling 35-24 Homecoming victory over Florida Atlantic (4-6, 3-4 American) in front of a sellout crowd on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 15, at Yulman Stadium.
Tulane scored first as receiver Jimmy Calloway ran it in from the 14 to put the Green Wave up 7-0 with 6:36 remaining in the opening period. The short field came on the first offensive play of the drive after a fumble recovery by Shaun Nicholas off a muffed FAU punt catch on special teams.
Florida Atlantic scored on the ensuing drive as Garrison Smith knocked in a 25-yard field goal with 2:06 left in the first quarter to put the score at 7-3.
The Green Wave answered as Jake Retzlaff connected with Bryce Bohanon on a 29-yard pitch-and-catch to put Tulane up 14-3 at the 14:54 mark of the second quarter.
The Owls scored the team's first touchdown of the game, 14-10, as Caden Veltkamp connected with Jayson Platt on a four-yard reception on fourth down with 11:06 remaining in the second quarter.
Tulane's offense kept things in gear as Anthony Miller hauled in a 14-yard touchdown from Retzlaff to put the Green Wave up 21-10 with 7:06 remaining in the second quarter in what would ultimately end up being the halftime score.
The Green Wave scored the squad's fourth touchdown of the game, 28-10, as Jamauri McClure ran it in from the eight with a minute remaining in the third quarter.
FAU drew a touchdown closer to start the fourth, 28-16, as Kayden Shields-Dutton scored from the one with 11:09 remaining in the game. The attempted two-point conversion failed.
The Green Wave answered on the ensuing drive as Retzlaff plowed in on a quarterback sneak to put Tulane up 35-16 with 4:30 remaining in the game.
Florida Atlantic drew to within 11, 35-24, on Veltkamp's 12-yard touchdown pass to Easton Messer with 1:49 remaining and a successful two-point conversion in what would be the final score.
Next, the football team gets back on the road and travels to Philadelphia to take on Temple on Saturday, Nov. 22.
Offense: Jake Retzlaff went 18-for-27 for 241 yards with two touchdown passes and a touchdown run. Jamauri McClure led the team in rushing with 94 yards on 10 carries plus a touchdown. Jimmy Calloway had 14 yards on the ground and a rushing touchdown. Bryce Bohanon totaled three catches for 56 yards and a touchdown. Anthony Brown-Stephens totaled three catches for 52 yards. Johnny Pascuzzi picked up three catches for 52 yards. Shazz Preston recorded three catches for 29 yards. Anthony Miller picked up a 14-yard touchdown reception.
Defense: Chris Rodgers led the defense with nine tackles, a stop for loss and a forced fumble. Jack Tchienchou and Javion White also both recorded nine tackles plus a pass breakup each. Harvey Dyson III and Kameron Hamilton each had half a sack. Jahiem Johnson, Isaiah Wadsworth and Bailey Despanie all had an interception. Dyson, Makai Williams, E'Zaiah Shine, Dallas Winner-Johnson each totaled a tackle for loss.
Special Teams: Alec Clark led the special teams unit with four punts for 188 yards plus an average of 47 yards a kick. Shaun Nicholas recovered a fumble. TJ Smith had a 30-yard kick return.
Team: FAU outgained Tulane 472-403, but the Green Wave held a 162-97 advantage on the ground. The Green Wave forced four turnovers in the game including picking off three passes plus had six tackles for loss and a sack.
- The 30,000 in attendance at the game was the eighth sellout in the history of Yulman Stadium, the seventh since the start of the 2022 season and the second of the season (vs. Duke – 9/13/25).
- The win improves the Green Wave to 2-1 all-time against Florida Atlantic and is the team's second straight victory over the Owls.
- The touchdowns scored by Jimmy Calloway, Anthony Miller and Jamauri McClure made them the 12th, 13th, and 14th different Tulane players to score touchdowns this season.
- The victory raises Tulane's record to 5-0 at home this season for the first time since 2019.
- The win improved Tulane to 8-2 or better for the fourth time the last four years and the 12th time in school history (2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 1998,1979, 1973, 1948, 1939, 1934, 1931, and 1925)…Overall this was the 17th time the program has ever won eight or more games in a single season although it is the fourth straight year (2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2002, 1998, 1979, 1973, 1970, 1948, 1939, 1934, 1931, 1930, 1929, 1925, and 1924.
- The victory makes Tulane 5-1 or better in conference play for the 10th time in school history (2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2013, 1998, 1997, 1949, 1948, and 1934)…This is only the 12th time the school has won five or more conference games between the time in the American, CUSA and SEC.
- With the win Tulane has won 22 of the team's last 24 regular season conference games (5-1 in 2025, 7-1 in 2024, 8-0 in 2023 and last two conference games in 2022).
- Tulane improves to 27-3 in conference regular season play since 2022. The .900 percentage is the second best in the country in that period of time.

- Since the start of the 2022 season, Tulane is now 40-12 (.769).
- Head Coach Jon Sumrall is now 27-4 over the course of his four-year head coaching career in games played in the months of October, November or December.
- Coach Sumrall saw his all-time record rise to 40-11 (.784) with the win over the Owls…His .784 career winning percentage ranks him fifth among current FBS coaches with 50 games coached only behind Ohio State's Ryan Day (79-10, .889), Oregon's Dan Lanning (44-7, .862), Georgia's Kirby Smart (113-20, .850), and Indiana's Curt Cignetti (141-37, .792).
- The win improved Coach Sumrall to 15-3 all-time against American Conference programs…He has now defeated all 13 current teams in the American in his career with this victory over the Owls…Additionally, he now defeated 29 different schools in his head coaching career between his time at Troy and Tulane.
- Coach Sumrall is 31-1 in his coaching career when his team (Troy and now Tulane) outrushes the opposition as Tulane held a 162-97 lead in rushing yards over the Owls…His teams are now 20-0 when holding the opposition under 100 yards rushing.
- Since the beginning of the 2022 season, the Green Wave is now 34-4 (.894) when scoring first.
- Since the beginning of the 2022 season, Tulane has only had three games where it has been forced to punt more than six times (8 vs. Tulsa on Sept. 27, 2025, 9 on Dec. 2, 2023 vs. SMU and 7 on Sept. 17, 2022 vs. Kansas State).
- With a rushing touchdown, Jake Retzlaff has now run for 11 scores this season…His 11 rushing touchdowns are the second-most in school history for a Tulane quarterback only behind Justin McMillan's 12 in 2019… Overall, Retzlaff is just the 10th different Tulane player to rush for 11 or more touchdowns in a season along with Matt Forte (2007 – 23), Tyjae Spears (2022 – 19), Makhi Hughes (2024 – 15), Orleans Darkwa (2011 – 13, 2013 – 12 & 2010 - 11) Cameron Carroll (2020 – 11), Justin McMillan (2019 – 12), Dontrell Hillard (2017 – 12), Darius Blackwell (2018 – 11), and Eddie Price (1949 – 11)

- The Green Wave has outrushed the opposition in 36 of its last 50 games (including 30 of its last 40)…In those games, Tulane holds a 33-3 record (losses in 2022 to Southern Miss and 2023 to Ole Miss and 2025 to UTSA).
- The program also has won 33 consecutive games when leading at the end of the third quarter with the last defeat coming to Memphis in 2021.
- Since the beginning of the 2016 season, Tulane is 58-7 (.892) when leading at the half and 58-9 (.865) when leading at the end of the third quarter.
