Tulane Pairs Spilt Four Matches on Day One of AVCA Pairs Championship

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Both of Tulane's pairs split their two outings Friday on the first day of the 2025 AVCA Pairs National Championship as each moves to the consolation brackets of the event. Skylar Ensign and Molly Trodd advanced to the second round before falling to a top-three seeded pair from Stanford in a hard-fought three-set match.

Ensign and Trodd were seeded 30th in the 64-pair championship bracket, opening against the 35th seed from Florida Gulf Coast. The Wave pair earned a dominant sweep victory, claiming both sets 21-12. A challenge awaited in round two with the third overall seed, a pair from Stanford. Ensign and Trodd pushed the Cardinal pairing to the limit, winning set one 21-17 before dropping the next two frames 21-16 and 15-8.

Seeded 28th, Katie Hansen and Emma Morris began their day with a match against the 37th seed from Grand Canyon. It was another tight contest with the Wave taking the first set 21-18, but the Antelopes responded to win set two 21-16, and they edged out set three 15-12. Tulane's duo moved to the 33rd-place bracket, taking down a pair from UT Martin by scores of 21-17 and 21-14.

With the sweep win, Hansen and Morris advance to play a pair from California tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. Ensign and Trodd move to the bracket for 17th place and will open tomorrow with a tilt against a pair from North Florida at 9:15 a.m. Both Tulane pairs will play again tomorrow afternoon with times, courts, and brackets varying based on results.

The AVCA Pairs Championship will conclude on Sunday at John Hunt Sand Volleyball Courts.
