
Tulane Athletics to Lead Weeklong Commemoration Honoring the 20th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina

NEW ORLEANS — Tulane Athletics is honored to announce a weeklong series of events and initiatives commemorating the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. This tribute aims to honor the resilience of our community, pay tribute to those affected by the storm, and celebrate the enduring spirit that has propelled Tulane and New Orleans forward over the past two decades. Through these activities, Tulane Athletics reaffirms its commitment to remembrance, recovery, and unity.

Yesterday, Green Wave student-athletes launched the week of remembrance by participating in New Orleans' annual Citywide Day of Service, dedicating their efforts to revitalizing Oliver Bush Playground.

A heartfelt video will feature insights from administrators, coaches, fans, season ticket holders, and donors who experienced Tulane during Hurricane Katrina. Their personal stories will offer a compelling perspective on community strength and the university's unwavering spirit.

A feature story on TulaneGreenWave.com will showcase voices from student-athletes who were at Tulane in 2005. Their firsthand experiences will provide fans with an intimate look at that pivotal time through the eyes of those who lived it.

A video will focus on the Tulane Women's Basketball team's historic 72-60 victory over Central Connecticut on December 18, 2005—the first collegiate sporting event held in New Orleans after Katrina. The piece will include reflections from then-freshman and current Green Wave head coach Ashley Langford, along with contributions from her head coach at the time, Tulane Hall of Famer Lisa Stockton.

A special "Welcome to Uptown" episode will be streamed on ESPN+ and online, spotlighting Tulane Football's journey. The episode will feature interviews with current and former coaches and athletes, emphasizing resilience and renewal.

During the Green Wave's football game against Northwestern, Tulane's 2005 student-athletes will be honored and recognized on the field, celebrating their vital role in the city's resilience and the legacy of that historic year. The Green Wave, who will enter the field with the New Orleans city flag, will don green helmets with no decal to honor the 2005 team as well.
