Aug 7, 2025 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – Former Tulane Women's Basketball Coach Lisa Stockton has been appointed to the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament Selection Committee (WBIT) alongside Big South Commissioner Sherika Montgomery. The electees will join the eight-member committee, replacing former Georgia State Senior Associate Athletics Director Kelcey Roegiers and former Texas Tech women's basketball coach Marsha Sharp.
Â
The WBIT Selection Committee, composed of former coaches and administrators, chooses the 32 best-available teams for the annual postseason tournament, seeds them, and places them into a bracket. Â
Â
Stockton was chosen for her prominence and legacy in the women's basketball sphere. She served 30 years as the Tulane head coach, retiring after the 2023-24 season. She was named one of the 25 most influential women in Louisiana sports history by The Advocate in 2022. Stockton was also recognized as one of the 100 most impactful people in the sport of women's college basketball by Silver Waves Media in 2020. Furthermore, she was a CitiBusiness' 2007 Woman of the Year.
Â
Stockton has a history of serving in leadership roles, participating as a member of the NCAA Women's Basketball Issues Committee and Academic Subcommittee. She also acted on the Women's Basketball Regional Advisory Committee as well as the Kodak All-American Committee. Finally, she chaired the Conference USA women's basketball coaches and served four terms as the Women's Basketball Coaches Association conference captain.
Â
"I am truly honored to join the WBIT Selection Committee and excited for the opportunity to contribute to the continued growth of this dynamic tournament," Stockton said. "The WBIT has quickly become a meaningful and highly competitive postseason tournament, and I look forward to contributing to its growth."
Â
The 2026 WBIT will host semifinals through finals in Wichita State's Koch Arena. Semifinals will take place on March 30, while the finals will occur on April 1. Selections will be announced Sunday, March 15. Preliminary-round games will begin March 19 at the higher seed's home court.
