Oct 18, 2026 | Women's Volleyball
TAMPA, Fla. – A career day from sophomore Lauryn Mack helped Tulane volleyball (15-3, 7-1) bounce back into the win column with a 3-2 road victory over South Florida (5-13, 4-4) on Sunday. Mack tallied a career-high 23 kills as the Green Wave rallied from behind to secure its fourth five-set win of the season.
With the win, the Wave improved to 6-1 on the road this season including a 4-1 mark in American Conference action. The victory also snapped a three-match losing streak against the Bulls for Tulane marking the Green Wave's first win in the series since November 25, 2024.
The career-best 23 kills from Mack led all players in the match while Avery Burks joined her in double figures posting 16 kills. Both Mack and Burks recorded double doubles in the win for the Wave as Mack finished with 15 digs and Burks added 12. Four more players made an impact for the Tulane offense with Maddy McLin posting nine kills and Riley Tucker, Charlee Solomon, and Millie Burgess each tallying seven.
Solomon showed off her versatility throughout the match against the Bulls as she recorded a double-double with 52 assists and 13 digs while also adding seven kills and one block. She has tallied 50 or more assists four times this season with all four performances coming in league play.
Makena Lim patrolled the defense for the Green Wave as she finished with a career-high 27 digs which led both teams in the match. Tulane totaled three blocks as a team against South Florida with Tucker accounting for two total blocks and Solomon and Burgess each receiving credit for one total block.
In the opening set of the match the Wave and the Bulls went back-and-forth meeting in five ties and trading the lead a couple of times. South Florida broke the final tie of the set with a 7-2 run to put Tulane behind 10-15 at the media timeout.
The Green Wave battled to pull within three a pair of times following the break, but the Bulls had an answer each time. Tulane ultimately dropped the first set 16-25 to fall behind 0-1 in the match.
The start to the second set was similar to the previous frame as the two teams traded points early. This time the Wave managed to pull in front with four-straight points to build a 10-6 advantage.
Tulane continued to put the pressure on South Florida in the second set extending its lead to as many as nine points. Solomon eventually clinched the set with a kill for the Green Wave to even the match 1-1 with a 25-16 set victory.
Following another brief back-and-forth in the third frame, the Bulls reclaimed the momentum of the match with a 10-4 run that put Tulane behind 9-15. The Wave was unable to battle back in the set eventually falling 17-25.
The fourth set was the most highly contested between the Green Wave and South Florida as the frame had 12 ties but just two lead changes. Tulane held the initial advantage building a 9-6 lead, but it was short lived as the Bulls answered to pull in front 15-12.
After coming back from the media timeout of the fourth set the Wave began slowly chipping away at the deficit. A kill by Burks eventually tied the set at 21-21 before Mack followed with a kill to put Tulane in front 22-21. The two teams then went back-and-forth until back-to-back kills from Tucker and Burks ultimately secured the set for the Green Wave 28-26.
Tulane used the momentum it built from the fourth set to jump on the Bulls to begin the fifth and final frame. The Wave quickly pulled in front 5-1 before South Florida started to fight back.
The lead for the Green Wave was eventually trimmed to three points at 11-8, but that would be as close as the Bulls would get in the fifth. Tulane closed strong by scoring the final four points to take the set 15-8 and win the match 3-2.
