
Swimming and Diving Places Fourth at the TYR Fall Classic

TYR Day 2 Results
DORAL, FL –Sophomore Eliza Lennox and junior Lise Coetzee each won their event for the second straight day to help lead the Tulane swimming and diving team to a fourth-place overall finish at the TYR Fall Classic on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Doral Aquatics Center in Doral, Florida. The program had those two event victories among the 11 top 10 finishes on the final day of competition. The team totaled 1018.50 points in the 15 events over the course of Friday and Saturday.
Lennox won the 100 free (50.65) and set a new meet record with her time. She also earned 32 points for the team with the victory. It was the second straight day where she set a meet record and won an event as she did the same in the 50 free on Friday.
Coetzee won the 500 free with her time of 5:00.10 to earn 32 points. Her teammate, sophomore Maddie Emment, placed ninth with a 5:06.51 for 17 points. Coetzee also finished ninth in the 100 free (51.38).
Sophomore Mary Kate Kupsky finished as the runner-up in the 200 back (2:04.99). Fellow sophomore Marin Shimkus placed 10th in the same event (2:08.55)
Senior Gwen Shahboz had a pair of third-place finishes as she took third in the 200 breast (2:22.47) and in the 200 IM (2:08.68).
Junior Phoebe Johnson took fifth in the 200 butterfly (2:10.64).
The 400 free relay team of Lennox, Emment, Shimkus and Coetzee swam a 3:28.49 to take fourth.
The 200 medley relay group of sophomore Nicole Fant, senior Paula Gaya Bisquerra, Lennox and Shimkus placed fourth (1:45.53).
Next, Tulane travels for a meet in North Carolina from October 23-24. The team's next home meet is the second annual Mardi Gras Invitational from January 15-16 at the Reily Center, featuring teams from the University of New Mexico, Delta State, and Loyola of New Orleans. Â
