Green Wave Sweeps Charlotte for Ninth-Straight Victory
Oct 9, 2026 | Women's Volleyball
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane volleyball (13-2, 5-0) secured its ninth consecutive win Friday night as it defeated Charlotte (4-13, 1-5) with a 3-0 sweep inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The sweep for the Green Wave was the eighth of the season for the team marking the most through 15 matches since recording nine in the first 15 contests of 2018.
With the win, the Wave starts American Conference play 5-0 marking its best start in league action since opening competition in Conference USA 5-0 in 2007. The nine-match win streak for the Green Wave is the longest for the program since winning 11 in a row in 2018.
Senior Avery Burks led a trio of players for Tulane with double figures in kills posting 16 with a career-best .652 hitting percentage. Following Burks with double-digit kills were Lauryn Mack with 11 and Riley Tucker with 10. Burks also made an impact from the service line recording two aces which tied with a pair from Dayla Ortiz for the team lead.
Charlee Solomon set up the offensive attack for the Wave registering 42 assists to go with a team-high 14 digs and a pair of kills. Teaming up with Solomon defensively for the Green Wave was Makena Lim who finished with 13 digs to mark her eighth match this season with double figures.
Charlotte set the tone for how each set was going to start in the opening frame by scoring the first two points of the night. The Green Wave answered as the two teams traded the lead a couple of times before Tulane made its first big push after the media timeout trailing 14-15.
The 49ers picked up a service ace coming out of the timeout, but Tulane responded with a 5-0 run to reclaim the lead 19-16. The advantage was briefly trimmed to one point at 19-18 for the Wave until Tulane closed with a 6-2 scoring run including three-straight points to end the set with a 25-20 win.
The Green Wave was ambushed by Charlotte to begin the second set as the Wave quickly faced its largest deficit of the day trailing 3-12. However, Tulane was unfazed by the strong start from the 49ers.
Facing a nine-point deficit at 3-12 the Wave methodically started to battle back into the set. Eventually the constant pressure from Tulane resulted in a 21-8 run including seven unanswered points that gave the Green Wave a 24-20 advantage. The 49ers tried to fight back scoring the next three points, but Riley Tucker secured the set with a kill as the Wave won 25-23 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Once again in the third set it was Charlotte that claimed the initial advantage scoring the first three points of the frame. Tulane was ready for the early attack from the 49ers and quickly responded with a 9-4 run to take the lead 9-7.
Throughout the middle of set three the Green Wave and the 49ers traded blows exchanging the lead four times. It was the Wave that eventually took control of the action scoring eight-straight points to clinch the set 25-16 and secure the 3-0 sweep over Charlotte.
