PHILADELPHIA, Penn.  – Tulane volleyball (17-5, 9-3) suffered its second loss in a row with a 1-3 defeat Sunday afternoon on the road at Temple (15-9, 7-5). The Green Wave finished the match with more kills and digs, but the defense at the net from the Owls proved to be the difference as Temple posted 15 blocks.
With the loss, the Wave dropped to 6-3 on the road this season including a 4-3 mark in American Conference action. The defeat also moved Tulane to 8-11 all-time against Temple and 3-7 on the road against the Owls.
Lauryn Mack led the offensive attack for the Green Wave tying for a match-high with 17 kills. Mack also added seven digs, one block, one assists, and one service ace. Five other players recorded multiple kills for the Wave in the match including Chloe List with nine and Avery Burks with eight.
Despite the loss sophomore Charlee Solomon continued to stuff the stat sheet as she paced the team with 40 assists. She recorded her 12th double-double of the season by posting 10 digs to go with six kills and three blocks.
Defensively, Makena Lim led Tulane with a match-high 19 digs. She has recorded double figures in digs 15 times this year including 10 consecutive matches. Joining Lim with double-digit digs for the Green Wave were Burks with 15, Solomon with 10, and Dayla Ortiz with 10.
Temple put the pressure on Tulane from the start of the match as the Wave fell behind 2-7 in the opening set. The Green Wave found its rhythm and answered the initial push by the Owls to tie the frame at 8-8.
The Wave and the Owls went back-and-forth down the stretch of the first set eventually sitting at a 21-21 tie. Temple got the final word of the opening frame as Tulane dropped the set 22-25.
In the second set the Green Wave flipped the script on the Owls jumping out to an early 4-1 advantage. After Temple evened the score at 13-13, Tulane built its largest lead of the frame with a 10-4 run to take a 23-17 lead.
However, the Owls did not back away from the challenge of the Wave in the second frame. Tulane reached set point holding a 24-20 advantage, but Temple battled back to steal the set from the Green Wave 24-26.
The Green Wave once again claimed the initial lead in the third set before the two teams began trading points. Eventually Tulane broke a 14-14 tie with three consecutive points to take final control of the frame.
Tulane went on to lead by as many as six in the third set before Chloe List ultimately clinched the point for the Wave. The kill from List secured the frame 25-20 for Tulane to force a fourth set against the Owls.
The fourth frame was another back-and-forth affair between Tulane and Temple, but this time the Owls maintained the slight advantage. The Green Wave eventually dropped the set 20-25 to fall 1-3 in the match.
