Tulane Sweeps Day One of Bayou Beach Duals

ELMWOOD, La. – It was a near-perfect day for Tulane at White Sands Volleyball Courts Friday as the Green Wave tallied a pair of sweep victories with just a single set dropped. With the wins, Tulane improves to 8-7 on the season, now with four 5-0 triumphs.

In the first match-up of the morning, Tulane took on Central Arkansas. At the second flight, Molly Trodd and Skylar Ensign began the day with a demolition 21-4 first set before a 21-15 second set secured their win. Gigi Gallegos and Avery Burks followed with a 21-12, 21-14 win at the fourth flight. The top flight of Emma Morris and Katie Hansen clinched the dual for the Wave with a 21-12, 21-17 triumph. McKenzie Cutler and Sam O'Connor posted two 21-14 sets for the sweep at the No. 5 pairing, and the dual concluded with the third flight of Amirah Ali and Tawny Ensign winning 21-16 and 21-13 for the 5-0 victory.

Tulane, receiving votes in the latest AVCA coaches poll, concluded the afternoon with a contest against conference foe UTEP. Playing this dual at the second flight, Morris and Hansen picked up a 21-15, 21-18 victory to open up the contest. Gallegos and Burks followed up with wins of 21-11 and 21-17 to bring Tulane to the brink, and Trodd and S. Ensign, now at the top flight, secured the triumph with a sweep of 21-17 and 21-11. Ali and T. Ensign swept again at No. 3 with sets of 21-18 and 23-21. The dual wrapped up with the fifth flight of Lauren Mann and Gabbi Kucinski. Though they dropped the opening set 21-16, the Wave tandem rallied to win the next two by scores of 21-18 and 15-13 to polish off the 5-0 win.

The Bayou Beach Duals will conclude tomorrow with another full day of action. Tulane is set for three in-state match-ups, first against McNeese State at 8:30 a.m. The afternoon will see bouts against Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana.
