Green Wave Completes Weekend Sweep of Bayou Beach Duals

ELMWOOD, La. – Tulane racked up a trio of victories over in-state foes Saturday at White Sands Volleyball Courts to finish off the Bayou Beach Duals at 5-0 for the weekend. The Green Wave, receiving votes in the latest AVCA coaches poll, opened the day with a 5-0 sweep of McNeese State before posting 4-1 wins over Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana in the afternoon. With five-straight wins, Tulane improves to 11-7 on the season.

Two pairs went 3-0 on the day for Tulane with Molly Trodd and Skylar Ensign going undefeated at No. 1 alongside Katie Hansen and Emma Morris at No. 2. Amirah Ali was 3-0 at the third flight with two different partners.

Tulane opened the morning with a 5-0 sweep of McNeese. The dual started with Gigi Gallegos and Avery Burks securing a hard-fought win of 21-16 and 22-20. Katie Hansen and Emma Morris were the only tandem to go three sets in the dual as they dropped the first frame 21-18 before rallying back to win the next two sets by scores of 21-8 and 15-5. Amirah Ali and Tawny Ensign clinched the win at the third flight with a 21-17, 21-15 sweep. Molly Trodd and Skylar Ensign added a 21-14, 21-16 sweep at No. 1 before the dual wrapped up with the fifth pair, McKenzie Cutler and Sam O'Connor, winning with two sets of 21-18.

The Wave opened up a back-to-back afternoon slate with a 4-1 triumph over Nicholls. Morris and Hansen had a battle of a first set that they claimed 23-21 before cruising in set two, 21-7. At the fourth flight, the Colonels pulled level in the dual with a three-set win. Tara Gaspar made her season debut alongside Gabby Dwyer, and they won 21-11 in the first set before dropping the second 21-12. The third set was a battle, but Nicholls edged it out 15-12. Tulane moved back in front with a sweep at the fifth flight by Lauren Mann and Giorgia Walther, who claimed set victories of 21-12 and 21-13. The top flight of Trodd and S. Ensign polished off the win from there, sweeping 21-7 and 21-14. Ali and Gallegos rounded out the contest with a 21-17, 21-9 sweep at the third flight.

Concluding the weekend, Tulane bested Southeastern Louisiana 4-1 to secure a fifth-straight win at home. Morris and Hansen kicked things off with a 21-9 and 21-19 sweep at the second flight. Cutler and O'Connor added their own sweep at No. 5 with scores of 21-13 and 21-18. The fourth flight of Burks and Gallegos were locked in a tight contest, dropping the first set 23-21 before rallying for a big 21-9 win in the second. The third went to the Lions, however, 15-10. Ali and T. Ensign used set wins of 21-16 and 21-17 to wrap up the victory for Tulane at the third flight, and Trodd and S. Ensign finished off the day with a three-set win. Despite losing the first set 21-14, they pushed back with wins of 21-10 and 15-12.

Tulane heads west next weekend with a trip to Malibu, California, for the ASICS Classic hosted by Pepperdine. The two-day tournament begins on Friday, March 20, as the Wave opens the slate against the host Waves at noon.
