NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane women's tennis team fought valiantly to the end against #56 Rice but came up short by a 4-3 margin Sunday afternoon at Goldring Tennis Center.

The Owls improved to 8-5 overall with the win, while the Green Wave dipped to 7-8.

Tulane did find success at No. 1 doubles, where Campbell Ricci and Summer Chandler knocked off Darya Schwartzman and Uma Bakaityte, 6-3. The latter duo came in ranked 74th nationally.

The Owls picked up the necessary three singles matches at Nos. 1, 2 and 4. For Tulane, Natalia Perez and Micah Pierce each won in straight sets at Nos. 3 and 6, while Natalia Fantini outlasted Rice's Ema Mravcova in three sets at No. 5.

Tulane will be back in action Wednesday at City Park Tennis Center for a 1 p.m. match against Murray State. Then on Thursday, the Green Wave will host UNO at Goldring Tennis Center at 2.
