Tulane Sweeps Singles in First Round Romp
Apr 16, 2026 | Women's Tennis
HOUSTON, TX – The seventh-seeded Tulane women's tennis team overcame a post-doubles deficit by running off consecutive singles wins in a 4-1 triumph over 10th-seeded UTSA Thursday afternoon in first round action at the American Conference Championship in Houston.
Â
The tournament is being held at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
Â
Tulane improved to 11-11 overall with the victory. The Roadrunners finished their season at 9-11 after failing to win a match away from home this spring.
Â
The Green Wave's 63rd-ranked doubles tandem of Campbell Ricci and Summer Chandler won 6-2, but UTSA took the point with wins at Nos. 2 and 3. Ricci and Chandler are 9-3 on the season.
Â
However, Tulane roared back in singles, taking each of the top four positions in straight sets. Natalia Perez provided the clinching salvo with a 6-4, 6-2 effort at No. 4.
Â
The Green Wave now turns its attention to a 2 p.m. match against second-seeded, and 30th-ranked, Charlotte on Friday. The two teams met on March 13 in New Orleans with the 49ers registering a 4-1 win. In that contest, Tulane's Natalia Fantini secured the team's lone point with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.
