NEW ORLEANS – Tulane head women's basketball coach Ashley Langford has rounded out her coaching staff ahead of her third season at the helm of the Green Wave by welcoming Tamia Willingham-King as the program's director of basketball operations. Willingham-King remains in the Big Easy after spending the past two years in the same role across town at the University of New Orleans. A rising leader in college athletics, Willingham-King comes over to Uptown with a multifaceted background in coaching, operations, and player development across both collegiate and professional sports.
"Tamia quickly emerged as a top candidate, and it was evident that she was an excellent fit for our program," said Langford "Her attention to detail, organizational skills, and ties to the New Orleans community will allow her to make an immediate impact."
With UNO, Willingham-King successfully coordinated all aspects of team travel, prospective student-athlete visits, and professional development opportunities for student-athletes.
Before joining the Privateers, Willingham-King gained NFL experience as a Player Engagement & Operations Intern with the New York Jets, assisting in off-field development and support for players and coaches. She also served as a Minority Fellow with the Carolina Panthers, contributing across multiple departments including equipment, team operations, marketing, and stadium services. She was a 2023 NFL Women's Forum invitee and was selected for the inaugural USA Basketball Women in the Game scholarship cohort in 2022.
Outside the professional ranks, she served as an assistant coach at Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) after spending the 2022–23 season as a graduate assistant for the Warhawks. Her playing career included stops at Snead State Community College (2017–2019), Tuskegee University (2019–2021), and AUM (2022), where she demonstrated leadership and versatility on the court.
Willingham-King earned her Associate of Science from Snead State, a Bachelor of Science in Health Science with a minor in Social Work from Tuskegee University, and a Master of Education from AUM. She currently serves on the alumni board of the Black Sports Business Academy, supporting HBCU students pursuing careers in sports.
A native of Decatur, Alabama, Willingham-King brings energy, relatability, and a passion for empowering student-athletes both on and off the court.
