NEW ORLEANS — David Harris, Tulane's Ben Weiner Director of Athletics Chair, announced the promotion of Justin Berger to the position of Executive Associate Athletics Director for Development on Thursday.
Berger returned to Uptown in September of 2023 and has since served as the unit's Senior Associate Athletics Director.
Since Berger's return, Tulane Athletics has achieved remarkable milestones, including raising over $45 million in new cash and pledges, with unrestricted cash giving increasing by 29.3% from $3.029 million in FY23 to $3.915 million in FY25. Green Wave Club membership has grown by 26.6%, surpassing 4,000 members for the first time in department history, and the Olive & Blue Society has welcomed over 60 new members, reaching a record membership of 144.
The department has also excelled in engagement and fundraising initiatives, including launching the Green Wave Talent Fund in response to the landmark NCAA vs. House settlement, exceeding funding goals and supporting department pool payments and NIL benefits. Green Wave Club engagement events have been hosted coast-to-coast, from New York to Los Angeles, fostering a stronger sense of community among supporters. Additionally, Tulane has recorded record ticket sales and revenue across all ticketed sports and reorganized key staff positions with the Development and Ticket Office units to enhance operational efficiency.
"I am deeply grateful to David Harris for his confidence in me and for his unwavering support of our team," Berger said. "I am also thankful to be part of the Green Wave family – our alumni, donors, supporters, coaches, student-athletes, and staff make Tulane a special place, and their passion and commitment make our success possible. While I am tremendously appreciative of this recognition, I view it as an affirmation of the great work being done across our team, as we strive to strengthen relationships throughout the Green Wave Family and generate the level of support a championship-caliber department requires."
Berger's return to the Uptown campus followed two successful years at Stony Brook University, where he led the department's most successful fundraising year in its history, raising over $7.3 million from more than 1,700 donors. He played a pivotal role in advancing numerous capital projects and developing the John Ramsey Leadership Society, recognizing the department's most dedicated supporters.
Previously, Berger served Tulane as Assistant Athletic Director for Development, overseeing the Green Wave Club's annual giving program and major gift initiatives, achieving a 13.8% year-over-year growth in unrestricted donations in 2021—the largest in department history.
"Justin Berger's promotion is a testament to his outstanding leadership and unwavering dedication to Tulane Athletics," said Harris. "His impactful work in development has been a driving force behind our department's growth—raising record-breaking funds, expanding our supporter base, and strengthening relationships that are vital to our success. We are excited to see him continue to build on this momentum as he helps lead Tulane into a bright future of excellence and community engagement."
A former student-athlete at UAlbany, Berger earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology and his master's in Educational Policy and Leadership, with numerous leadership awards and honors. His background as a four-year member of UAlbany's men's lacrosse team and his active involvement in student-athlete advisory committees underscore his dedication to fostering a strong community within athletics.
