Swimming’s Casey Freeman Delivers Impressive Performances at 2026 Para Pan Pacific Swimming Championships

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane sophomore swimmer Casey Freeman had strong individual performances, including a pair of final appearances, at the 2026 Para Pan Pacific Swimming Championships from August 28-30 in Walnut, California.
Freeman, classified as an S9 athlete, competed in the 100m freestyle, 400m freestyle, and 100m backstroke. She opened the competition on Friday, finishing 15th in the 100m freestyle preliminaries with a time of 1:14.33. On Saturday, she placed 12th in the 400m freestyle preliminaries with a time of 5:35.16, before advancing to the finals and tying for seventh with a time of 5:35.20. On the final day, Freeman qualified for the 100m backstroke final with a seventh-place finish in the preliminaries at 1:27.12 but was unfortunately disqualified in the final.
The three-day event took place in a 50-meter course pool at Heritage Hall on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College, with heats seeded by time and gender, and finals seeded by WPS (World Para Swimming) points.
Para Swimming, one of the oldest Paralympic sports, has been part of every Summer Games since 1960. It features athletes with physical, visual, and intellectual impairments competing in freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, and individual medley races, covering distances from 50m to 400m. The sport showcases remarkable athleticism, precision, and mental focus, offering captivating competition for fans worldwide.
The Tulane program finished fifth overall at the 2026 American Conference Swimming Championships with 905.50 points. The program totaled an event victory and five medal winners in the competition. Lise Coetzee won the 200 free and placed second in the 500 free. Varvara Gkiouzepa Petropoulou was the runner-up in the 200 butterfly. Eliza Lennox took third in the 100 free. The 800 relay team of Coetzee, Andrea Zeebe, Phoebe Johnson, and Rafaela Sumida placed third. Libby Brewer was named the league's Freshman Diver of the Year and also qualified and competed at NCAA Zones this season. Tulane also saw 11 qualify and compete at the 2026 CSCAA National Invitational Championships in Danielle Barberie, Coetzee, Nicole Fant, Paula Gaya Bisquerra, Petropoulou, Ebba Holgersson, Johnson, Mary Kate Kupsky, Lennox, Gwen Shahboz, and Marin Shimkus. The program saw four earn a spot on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District ® Division I Swimming & Diving Team in Petropoulou, Hatipoglu, Johnson, and Zeebe and three selected as College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-Americans in Lennox, Petropoulou, and Brewer.
Tulane's swimming program is set to open the 2026 season with the annual Olive and Blue Intrasquad scrimmage on Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. at Reily Natatorium.
