Burks Named American Conference Offensive Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane volleyball senior Avery Burks earned American Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for her performance over the weekend, the league announced Monday. Middle blocker Riley Tucker also garnered weekly recognition from the conference landing honorable mention accolades.
Burks picked up the offensive player of the week recognition following her strong performance to open conference play leading the Wave to its first 2-0 start in league action since 2021. She recorded 33.5 points, 29 kills, four service aces, one assist, and one blocks in Tulane's road victories over UTSA and North Texas. Burks averaged an impressive 4.19 points and 3.63 kills per set on a .418 hitting percentage in the two wins.
The Gilbert, Arizona, product opened conference play with a season-best 22-point and 18 kill performance on a .485 hitting percentage to help the Green Wave take down the Roadrunner 3-2 on Friday. She also registered a career-high four service aces in the five-set victory for Tulane over UTSA. Burks followed that performance with 11.5 points, 11 kills, and one block in a 3-0 sweep for the Wave over the Mean Green on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Tucker earned weekly honorable mention honors after averaging 1.75 blocks per set during the 2-0 weekend for Tulane. She tallied 22.0 points, 15 kills, and 14.0 total blocks across the two matches while also posting a .500 attack percentage.
The Clemmons, North Carlonia, native began league action by recording 12.5 points with 10 kills on a .529 hitting percentage and 5.0 total blocks as the Wave defeated UTSA 3-2 Friday. On Sunday Tucker matched her career-high with 9.0 total blocks while also adding five kills to finish with 9.5 points in a 3-0 sweep for Tulane over North Texas.
Tulane continues conference play this weekend as it visits the Memphis Tigers on Friday night, October 2. The Wave and the Tigers are set to square off at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
