2002: Battled injuries throughout the season, but still played in 12 games, recording 48 tackles, including 32 solo stops. Started five of the first six games of the season. Also made eight tackles for loss, including five sacks (fourth on the team). Registered season-highs of seven tackles (six solo) against UAB (10/19). Also had six-tackle games against Texas (9/28) and UL-Monroe (10/5). Had one and a half sacks against East Carolina (9/14). Forced a fumble against Cincinnati (10/12) and recovered one against UL-Monroe. Missed the Houston game due to injury.
2001: Played in 11 games, seeing the bulk of his action on special teams. Posted two tackles against TCU (10/13). Recovered a fumble against nationally-ranked LSU (9/1).
2000: Redshirted the season.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 2000 graduate of Clear Lake High School. A three-year letterman as a linebacker, fullback and defensive tackle, Baker earned district defensive MVP honors as a senior and was voted the Falcons[apos] best defensive player. A second-team all-district running back as well. Helped team to an 8-4 mark and berth in the regional finals. A second-team all-district defensive lineman. Played for Coach Troy Aduddell.
PERSONAL: Blake Winfield Baker. Born July 10, 1982 in Jackson, Miss. The son of Byron and Kyla Baker. His brother, was a starting offensive lineman for the University of Texas and graduated last season. His father played football for Howard Payne University. Majoring in sociology.
