Chino Fontenette, one of the most versatile players to wear the Green Wave uniform, begins his second season as a graduate assistant coach in 2006. Fontenette returned to his alma mater last season and will once again assist the Tulane offensive coaching staff with breakdown, game preparation and scouting reports, and work with the offensive scout team. Fontenette[apos]s name is familiar to Green Wave fans as he graduated with a double major in media arts and marketing in 2003 after four years as a member of the Tulane football team (1999-2003). Fontenette played running back, receiver and quarterback while also serving as a special teams ace and even as the team[apos]s holder. He was named to the Conference USA Commissioner[apos]s Honor Roll with a GPA above 3.0 in 1999 and 2000 and was a member of the 2002 Tulane squad that ended an 8-5 season with a victory in the Hawaii Bowl. Following graduation, Fontenette worked for cable broadcasting giant ESPN as a production assistant. He worked on the network[apos]s Sunday Night Football broadcasts in 2004-05 and assisted in the production of the 2005 NFL Pro Bowl in Honolulu, Hawai[apos]i, as well as the NFL and NBA Draft telecasts. Fontenette graduated from North Shore Senior High School in Houston in 1999, where he was a two-time all-district choice and district MVP as a quarterback in 1998. As a Tulane Player:

2003: Played in all 12 games as a senior. Posted his top career performance against Southern Miss (11/15) with eight carries for 32 yards and three receptions for 48 yards. 2002: Played in all 13 games, including a start as a second running back against East Carolina (9/14). Had seven rushes for 22 yards and also caught three passes. Moved into the role as Tulane[apos]s holder for all place kicks.

2001: Saw action in three games for the Green Wave. Had four carries for 10 yards, including a long rush of five, against Southern Miss (11/17). In that game, had a career-best rush of 11 yards and a career-best reception of 17 yards.

2000: Played in one game, seeing his first career action against Army.

1999: Redshirted the season.

HIGH SCHOOL: A 1999 graduate of North Shore High School in Houston, Texas. Played quarterback as a senior and was selected district offensive MVP. Two-time all-district selection who helped lead NSHS to a 7-4 mark in 1998. Passed for 824 yards and 10 touchdowns and rushed for another 816 yards and 16 more TDs. Averaged 7.8 yards per rush as a senior. Completed 57 of 123 passes during 1998 season. Coached by David Aymond.

PERSONAL: Full name is Howard Joseph Fontenette, III. Born February 24, 1981 in Houston, Texas. The son of Mildred and Howard Fontenette, Jr. Has three sisters. Enjoys playing the drums. Earned his bachelor[apos]s degree in media arts with a marketing minor in May of 2003. Earned a slot on the Conference USA Commissioner[apos]s Honor Roll for his academic efforts in 1998-99 and 1999-2000.
