A versatile player for the Green Wave who saw action at running back, receiver and quarterback, while also serving as the team[apos]s holder.
2003: Played in all 12 games as a senior. Posted his top career performance against Southern Miss (11/15) with eight carries for 32 yards and three receptions for 48 yards. 2002: Played in all 13 games, including a start as a second running back against East Carolina (9/14). Had seven rushes for 22 yards and also caught three passes. Moved into the role as Tulane[apos]s holder for all place kicks.
2001: Saw action in three games for the Green Wave. Had four carries for 10 yards, including a long rush of five, against Southern Miss (11/17). In that game, had a career-best rush of 11 yards and a career-best reception of 17 yards.
2000: Played in one game, seeing his first career action against Army.
1999: Redshirted the season.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 1999 graduate of North Shore High School in Houston, Texas. Played quarterback as a senior and was selected district offensive MVP. Two-time all-district selection who helped lead NSHS to a 7-4 mark in 1998. Passed for 824 yards and 10 touchdowns and rushed for another 816 yards and 16 more TDs. Averaged 7.8 yards per rush as a senior. Completed 57 of 123 passes during 1998 season. Coached by David Aymond.
PERSONAL: Full name is Howard Joseph Fontenette, III. Born February 24, 1981 in Houston, Texas. The son of Mildred and Howard Fontenette, Jr. Has three sisters. Enjoys playing the drums. Earned his bachelor[apos]s degree in media arts with a marketing minor in May of 2003. Earned a slot on the Conference USA Commissioner[apos]s Honor Roll for his academic efforts in 1998-99 and 1999-2000.
