1999: Participated in eight games. Tallied 56 tackles (34 solo). Recovered one fumble and returned two kicks for 41 yards. Recorded 55 of his tackles in the last five games of the season. Had a career-high 17 tackles (12 solo) against Memphis (10/30) and matched that with 17 more (13 solo) vs. Navy (11/13). Also logged 11 tackles in the Houston game (11/6).
1998: Played in all 12 games as a reserve and special teams player. Credited with eight total tackles, including six solo stops. Had two tackles against both Rutgers and Louisiana Tech.
1997: Redshirted. Shifted from defensive back to wide receiver in August, but moved back to DB following the season.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 1997 graduate of Catholic High School in New Iberia, La. Played running back and defensive back for Coach Keith Annulis. Gained 629 yards on 87 carries and scored nine touchdowns as a senior. Three-year starter. Named first team all-district defensive back and honorable mention all-state academic as a senior. Sprinter in track who won Class 3A state championship in 100 meters as a junior. Named All-Acadian Pepsi Track Athlete of the Year. Best prep marks of 10.38 in 100, 21.20 in 200 and 49.63 in 400.
PERSONAL: Jamal Anthony Jones. Born November 7, 1979 in New Iberia, La. The son of Valeria M. Jones. His uncle, Zack Mitchell, played at Tulane from 1974-77. Majoring in computer information systems.
