High School: First team all-state center by the Texas Sports Writer[apos]s Association and by the Associated Press. Also named to the Texas Top 112 by SuperPrep. Named to the 2001 Old Spice Red Zone Lone Star All-Star team. Earned first team all-district and first team All-East Texas honors. Texas Football Magazine put him on its third team 'Super Team.' As a junior, was a first team All-East Texas and third team all-state honoree along with earning second team all-district honors. Did not allow a sack and was credited with 80 pancake blocks his senior year. For his career, totaled 170 pancake blocks in three years as a starter. Allowed just one sack his final two seasons. Helped lead the Lions to the state title game and a 12-4 record as a junior. Coached by Allen Wilson. Threw the shot put for the track team. Signed with Tulane along with prep teammates Tommy Griffin and Donald Madlock. Chose Tulane because 'I like the location, it[apos]s far enough for me to get away but close enough to come back.'
