Prior to his arrival at Tulane, Patchell was an assistant coach for the national powerhouse University of Arkansas program. While pursuing a doctorate degree at Arkansas, Patchell assisted with the pole vault and multi-events. He helped the Razorbacks to seven NCAA National Championships (one cross country, three indoor track and three outdoor track). He received his doctorate in kinesiology in 1999.
Patchell[apos]s coaching career began at his alma mater, Arkansas State, where he served as a graduate assistant for the 1994 and 1995 seasons. He received his master[apos]s degree in exercise physiology in 1995.
Originally from Heber Springs, Ark., Patchell graduated from Arkansas State in 1993 with a bachelor[apos]s degree in exercise science. While at ASU, Patchell was a member of the track and field teams from 1988 to 1993. He participated in the sprints and hurdles.
