Jackie Wegner will serve as the graduate assistant in the beach volleyball program for the 2016-17 academic year.
“Jackie has earned universal respect from her peers in both the academic and athletic spheres for her hard work, leadership and capacity to teach and learn,” Holly said. “She has set the standard for excellence as a student-athlete and I am extremely grateful that our team will continue to be influenced by her. Jackie has a unique perspective on the challenges of being a student-athlete that will help our staff be better to and for our players.”
In her current capacity, Wegner will act as an assistant coach working with all aspects of the program, including traveling with the team to road matches and assisting with video analysis and player stats. She will also be responsible for creating practice plans for the team.
Wegner played her undergraduate years with Tulane’s beach volleyball squad, becoming the first in Green Wave history to receive back-to-back bids to the AVCA National Pairs Championships alongside partner Tea Juric in 2014 and 2015. She owns an 85-43 career record, the highest in school history, and played more than half of her matches at the No. 1 position. In 2015, she set another school record, reaching 30 overall wins for the first time in Tulane history.
Off the court, Wegner has excelled in her studies and was named to Tulane’s 3.0 Club all four years. She majored in Finance and finished with a cumulative GPA of 3.98. For her performance in the classroom, Wegner earned back-to-back selections in 2015 and 2016 as Tulane’s Female Scholar Athlete of the Year. Last year, she was also unanimously named the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Beach Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Wegner is currently pursuing her Masters in Accounting at Tulane and will graduate in May 2017.
