Jay Marks was hired as an assistant strength and conditioning coach in June 2015. He assists with football and oversees the volleyball and swimming & diving strength and conditioning programs.
He joined Tulane University’s strength staff after serving as an assistant strength and conditioning coach with University of Miami from 2013-2015. He oversaw the strength and conditioning programs for women’s basketball and swimming. Prior to Miami, Marks was a member of Southern Methodist University’s strength staff. During his time at SMU, he oversaw basketball, men’s swimming and diving, women’s golf, tennis and assisted with football.
Marks has credentials from the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a CSCS and RSCC *D, NASE certified Specialist in Speed and Explosion, Functional Movement Screen, USAW Level 1 Club Coach, and USAW Sports Performance Coach. He is also NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist, NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist, Level 2 Fascial Stretch Therapist, and is CPR and AED certified.
Marks was also the sports performance director at Velocity Sports in New Orleans from 2009 to 2011 working with athletes ranging from youth to professional athletes. During this time, he also was the consultant for several nearby high schools. Additionally, he spent the 2011 season as an assistant strength and conditioning coach with the New Orleans Voodoo of the Arena League Football.
Early in Marks’s career, he volunteered with Nicholls State University’s strength staff assisting with football, men and women’s basketball, tennis, and baseball. He also interned with Olympic Coaches Gayle Hatch and Boo Schexnayder as a volunteer assistant weightlifting coach at CAP Elite and Louisiana State University during the summer of 2008 while assisting with football, softball, and men and women’s basketball.
Coach Marks earned a bachelor’s degree in sports science and wellness from Nicholls State and a master’s degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in coaching education from Georgia Southern University. He is working on an MBA from LSU-Shreveport.
Marks is married to the former Chabry Williams of Belle Rose, La., and they have one son, Jayden.
