LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - All-American Grace Daley scored 12 of her 29 points in overtime as the Tulane women's basketball team posted a 97-92 come-from-behind win over Siena on Friday.
New Orleans native Janell Burse added an impressive 34 points, 17 rebounds and a game-high four steals, as the Wave (1-0) improved to 4-2 in season-openers under head coach Lisa Stockton.
Siena (0-1) led by as many as nine points in the second half, before Daley's driving lay-up with four seconds left capped a 13-4 Tulane run over the final five minutes and evened the scores at 79-79. Daley had a chance to win the game for the Wave as she was fouled on the final play, but her free throw was off the mark.
Daley scored Tulane's first 10 points in the extra frame, and the Wave took an 89-85 lead with 2:21 remaining. Siena cut the margin to two, but two free throws from Burse and lay-ups from Sarah Goree and Fabrecia Roberson pushed the Tulane advantage to eight, 95-87 with just 21 seconds remaining.
Burse's totals easily set new career highs, as the New Orleans native shot 76.5 percent from the floor (13-of-17), and posted Tulane's highest individual single-game point total since Daley dropped 38 points on SMU last December. Daley finished the night with 29 points on 10-of-24 shooting, eight rebounds and three assists. Seven of Daley's eight rebounds and 11 of Burse's 17 came on the offensive end of the floor.
Freshman Britt Themann was Tulane's only other player in double figures, scoring 12 points. Salome Hector added seven points, while Roberson chipped in six points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Sarah Goree led the Wave with six assists.
For Siena, Audra Spemullo scored 23 points and six assists, while Chrissy Loelinger added 21 points and a game-high eight assists.
Tulane returns to action on Friday, Nov. 26, as the Green Wave play host to UNC Asheville at Fogelman Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
