CORAL GABLES, Fla. - - Grace Daley scored seven of her game-high 21 points as part of a 14-6 Tulane run to start the second half, as the Green Wave women's basketball team posted a 75-66 win over the University of Miami on Sunday.
Leading just 34-32 at the halftime break, Tulane (3-0) quickly opened a 10-point lead just 3:27 into the second frame. Daley started the burst with a driving lay-up and a three-pointer, before capping the run with a running jumper to put the Green Wave ahead 48-38 at the 16:33 mark.
Miami (2-1) answered with six straight points to cut the Wave advantage to just four, 48-44, with 13:43 left to play. But Salome Hector and Britt Themann each hit three-pointers as part of a 10-2 Tulane run, as the Wave claimed a 58-46 lead at the 11:41 mark of the second half. The Hurricaines pulled to within seven on five different occasions over the final 10 minutes, but each time the Wave answered the charge before claiming the nine-point win.
Grace Daley led the Wave with 21 points, marking the third time in as many games the senior All-American has scored at least 20 points. Daley also added five, assists, four rebounds and two steals. Janell Burse posted her second double-double in the last three games, turning in 15 points and 11 rebounds.
As a team, Tulane shot 45.8 percent from the floor, which included an impressive 71.4 percent shooting clip from the three-point line in the second half. The Wave connected on 10 three-pointers during the game, its highest single-game total from beyond the arc since draining 10 three's against South Alabama on Dec. 1, 1997. The Green Wave held Miami to 37.0 percent shooting for the game, just 12.5 percent from behind the arc.
The two teams played a nearly even first half, with both squads connecting on 14-of-31 field goals. However, the Wave used five three-pointers to claim the two-point halftime lead.
Tulane returns to action on Thursday, as the Green Wave plays host to Alabama at Fogelman Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
