Buff, a sophomore from Duluth, Ga., qualified for NCAA regional play after posting a 74.88 stroke average in 10 events this season. She won two tournaments this year, including the 1999 Conference USA individual championship, and finished in the top 10 in eight of the 10 events. For her efforts, Buff was named the 1999 Conference USA Player of the Year.
Buff is one of only four individuals from the South Region to qualify and is ranked as the No.1 individual qualifier from the region. Only 14 individuals in the nation qualified for NCAA regional play.
Since her arrival at Tulane last season, it has been one honor after another for Buff. She was the 1998 Conference USA individual champion and was named first team all-conference, Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year. She also participated in the 1998 NCAA East Regional.
In 1999, Buff became the first Conference USA golfer, male or female, to win individual conference championships and earn Player-of the-Year honors in consecutive seasons. She is also the first Tulane golfer to make back-to-back NCAA Regional appearances.
"I couldnt be more pleased for Pam," said seventh-year head coach Sue Bower. "Shes had a wonderful year and its only fitting that she receive an NCAA regional bid. She knows that she belongs in this elite crowd, having been there last season, and it wouldnt surprise me if she qualified for nationals."
The 1999 NCAA Womens Golf East Regional will be held at The University Club, Columbia, S.C., on May 6-8.
