Tulane Track & Field Receives National Ranking

NEW ORLEANS - On the heels of early its season successes, the Tulane women's track and field program is currently ranked No. 21 in the nation by Trackwire news service.
The Green Wave posted its first automatic qualifier to the NCAA Indoor National Championships and added another provisional qualifier at last weekend's Cannon IV Classic in Indianapolis, Ind.
Sophomore Hanne Lyngstad, a native of Elverum, Norway, posted a time of 4:41.36 in the mile run to become Tulane's first automatic qualifier of the season. Lyngstad's time also set a school record. It is her third qualifying mark of the indoor season, as she has provisionally qualified in the 800-meter dash and as part of Tulane's Distance Medley Relay. Since joining the Tulane program in the spring of 1998, Lyngstad has qualified for NCAA Championship competition in 10 different events.
Junior Lana Garner posted a provisional qualifying mark in the 400-meter dash. Her time of 53.61 also set a school record. Garner has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship meet in the 800 meters and the Distance Medley Relay as well. She has participated in the last three NCAA Championship meets.
Tulane has now qualified athletes in six events for the NCAA Indoor National Championships, to be held March 5-6 in Indianapolis, Ind.
This is the second consecutive season that the Tulane women's track and field program has been ranked nationally by Trackwire news service.
