Volleyball Wins Season Opener

RUSTON, La. ? The Green Wave volleyball team (1-0) began its 1999 season with a win on the road over Georgia State (1-1) 3-0 on Friday in the Louisiana Tech Power Volleyball Classic.
The Green Wave came out strong as they defeated the Lady Panthers in three games by the scores of 15-9, 15-13, 15-11. Tulane was in control of the match from the beginning as they scored first in each of the three games and never allowed Georgia State to take the lead. This was Betsy Ferrer?s first win at the helm of the Tulane volleyball program.
Kim Sentmore and Ashley Reese led the Wave in its offensive attack as the tandum recorded 32 of Tulane?s 57 kills. Reese recorded her first double-double of the season with 14 kills and 10 digs, and hit .487 for the match. Sentmore had 18 kills and nine digs. Former Tulane basketball standout, Lacey Vicknair chalked a team high six blocks, nine digs and eight kills.
Georgia State?s Tiki Anderson recorded 11 kills and two blocks.
Tulane plays Lamar on Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by a match up with host team Louisiana Tech at 7:30 p.m.
