Washington, D.C. -- Georgetown's Katie Smrcka-Duffy scored 27 points and made five 3-pointers as the Hoyas defeated Tulane University, 69-64. With the victory Georgetown improved to 5-2 on the season.
The Hoyas never trailed in the game, but the Green Wave remained close most of the game. Jannell Burse, who scored a game-high 32 points and had 14 rebounds, scored 26 points in the second half, had eight points in the first four minutes of the second half as Tulane trailed just 33-31. GU responded with an 8-0 run to take a 10 point lead with under 14 minutes to play. Tulane made a late run, but Georgetown connected on seven of its last nine free-throw attempts to ice the contest.
Freshman Rebekkah Brunson added 13 points and had a team-high eight rebounds in the contest. Lesely Walker chipped in with 10 points and seven assists. Sophomore Shawntese Charles had a career-high six assists.
Tulane's Sarah Goree scored 11 points, grabbed seven rebounds and handed out a game-high eight assists in the loss.
Georgetown will play at Sacred Heart on Monday, Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. The Green Wave faces nationally-ranked Southwest Missouri State on Monday at 7 p.m.
