Tulane Track Wins Six Events at Southern Miss Relays

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Tulane track team got off to a great start in its outdoor track season, winning six events today at the Southern Miss Relays.
Junior Hanne Lyngstad took the women's 5,000 meter run in a time of 17:58.50. While Senior Lana Garner ran a 1:00.73 in the women's 400-meter low hurdles to take the event. Junior Hanna Ritakallio led the women's 3,000 meter run with her time of 10:02.56. Sophomore Catherine Betz of Metairie, La. won the women's javelin throw, with her toss of 48.84 meters. Senior Jacob Businei won the men's 5,000 meter run in a time of 14:37.07 and Junior Nathan Junius was the best of the day in the men's javelin throw, with a toss of 71.46 meters.
Overall, Tulane posted eighteen top-5 finishers on the day. Twelve came on the women's side, including the top-3 positions in the 3,000 meter run, two of the top-4 spots in the 100 meter dash, two of the top-3 positions in the 200 meter dash, two of the top-3 participants in the javelin throw, and the No. 4 finisher in the 1,500 meter run. The men chipped in six top-5's, taking third in the 800 meter run, fifth in the 400 meter dash and three of the top-5 positions in the 5,000 meter run.
