Women's Tennis Falls to South Florida

TAMPA, Fla. - - Hosts and No. 2 seed South Florida won four of six singles matches en route to a 5-2 win over the third seeded Tulane women's tennis team in the semfinals of the Conference USA Women's Tennis Tournament on Saturday.
With the win, South Florida advances to the C-USA Tournament championship match for the fourth time in five seasons. Tulane will face Marquette for third place on Sunday.
South Florida got wins at the No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles matches to take an early lead. USF's Genevieve Houle was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Maiko Cook at the No. 2 spot, while Tina Harrison posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over Tulane's Julie Morris at the No. 4 position. The Bulls' Natalie Schwartz turned in a 6-2, 6-4 win over the Wave's Jessica Kessler at the No. 4 spot, and Idiko Zubor was a 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 winner over Tulane's Joyce Bergman at the No. 6 spot.
Tulane did claim a pair of wins in singles play. Anna Monhartova posted a 6-4, 6-1 win over Katherine Tessier at the No. 1 spot, while Anneli Axsater was a 7-6, 6-0 winner over Jackie Spicijaric in the No. 5 singles match.
South Florida clinched the dual match win with a victory at No. 1 singles. The USF duo of Tessier and Harrison recorded an 8-2 win over the Tulane tandem of Olga Mikhailova and Julie Morris.
Earlier on Saturday, Tulane completed its rain-delayed match against sixth-seeded DePaul with a 5-1 win. Monhartova was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Barbara Fuzesi at the No. 1 spot, while Morris posted a 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 victory over Szilvia Keleman at the No. 3 position. Kessler gave Tulane a win at No. 4 singles with her 6-3, 6-1 win over DePaul's Charlotta Aronsson, and Axsater was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Kadi Hilpus at the No. 5 spot. Tulane wrapped up the match when Bergman turned in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Megan Stewart at the No. 6 spot. DePaul's lone win came at No. 2 singles, where Laura Taylor recorded a 7-5, 7-5 win over Maiko Cook.
