
Tulane Baseball Defeats Pepperdine, 7-4

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Beau Richardson pitched a gem of a game and led Tulane (9-1) to a 7-4 win over Pepperdine (7-1) on Saturday afternoon.
Richardson (2-0) went seven innings, scattered four hits, gave up one run and struck out a season high seven.
The Tulane offense took an early lead and scored one run in the bottom of the first on a Steve Shirley double.
The Green Wave put up two runs in the third and four in the fourth. Jon Kaplan his an RBI single in the fourth to start the Wave rally. Jake Gautreau followed with a three-run home run with two outs.
Richardson held the Waves scoreless through six innings, before giving up the first run, a solo home run by Tony Garcia, in the seventh.
Pepperdine threatened in the eighth, scoring three, but freshman reliever Will Walter shut the Wave down in the ninth. He went 2 innings and struck out three.
For Tulane, Gautreau was 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBI. Kaplan was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Matt Groff has posted hits in all 10 games for the Wave this season.
The losing pitcher was Jay Adams. He went six innings gave up seven runs.
