
Baseball Rallies For 12-7 Sunday Victory Over UTSA

Tom Vincent (2-2) earned the win for Tulane in going two scoreless innings while allowing three walks and registering two strikeouts. J.D. Rodriguez started for Tulane and went the first 4.1 innings. He surrendered four hits and three runs. Jack Brafa was unable to retire a man while allowing three runs in the fifth inning. Jude Abbadessa surrendered a run on two hits in 0.1 of an inning in the fifth. Sam Larson closed the game out, throwing the final 2.1 innings with just one hit allowed for his fourth save of the season.
Jason Wachs helped lead the offense with two hits and three RBIs including his team-leading sixth home run of the season. He also scored two runs. Kaikea Harrison knocked in three runs and hit his fourth home run of the campaign. Hugh Pinkney drove in a pair of runs with his third home run of the season. James Agabedis scored a pair of runs plus had a hit and an RBI. Tye Wood totaled a hit and a run scored. Matthias Haas picked up a hit, a walk, and a run scored. Evan Burg drove in and scored a run. Johnny Elliott tallied a hit, a run scored, an RBI and a walk. Brett Rowell scored a run. Tanner Chun drew a walk. Nate Johnson had a double, a run scored and a walk.
UTSA's Christopher Guiterrez (1-2) was tagged with the loss after giving up five runs in 2.1 innings worked in relief.
Tulane scored first with five runs in the opening inning. Agabedis started the scoring with his RBI triple to score Wood. Wachs followed with a sacrifice fly to score Agabedis. Pinkney had the big hit of the frame with his two-run home run to score himself and Haas. Rowell scored the team's fifth run from first on the misplayed double from Nate Johnson.
UTSA scored a run in the top of the second on a Jordan Ballin single off the pitcher. The inning ended as Agabedis fielded the ball off the pitcher and outran the man trying to get to third.
UTSA grabbed the lead in the fifth inning with a six-run rally, 7-5. Caden Miller had an RBI single. Drew Detlefsen picked up a two-RBI double. Andrew Stucky drove in a run with a double, Lane Haworth stole home for a run and Diego Diaz finished off the scoring with his RBI single.
Tulane rallied and tied the score, 7-7. in the bottom of the fifth on Wachs' two-run home run with Agabedis aboard. Agabedis struck out earlier in the inning but was able to reach on a dropped third strike on a wild pitch.
Harrison gave Tulane the lead for good in the sixth inning, 9-7, with his third home run of the season with Nate Johnson on base. Johnson started the one-out rally with a hit by pitch and then stole second and was on base for the Harrison blast.
The Green Wave finished off the scoring with three insurance runs in the seventh inning. Burg drove in the first with his fielder's choice grounder in which no out was able to be recorded. Burg then came in to score on Elliott's single up the middle. After a hit by pitch and a walk to load the bases, Harrison drove in his third run of the game with a sacrifice fly to put the final margin at 12-7.
Next, Tulane finishes up the homestand and welcomes in No. 16 Southern Miss (31-12) on Tuesday, April 28, starting at 6:30 p.m. on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium
