
Baseball Knocks Off No. 12 Southern Miss 7-6

With the game knotted at six all in the bottom of the eighth inning, Tanner Chun came up with a two-out base hit through the left side to score Johnny Elliott. Elliott started the rally with a one-out single. He moved to second on a wild pitch and came all the way in to score from second base on Chun's full-count single.
Sam Larson (2-2) earned the victory with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief in which he surrendered a walk and struck out a man. Larson was originally called upon in the eighth inning in a two on two-out situation and was able to induce a fly out to end the frame and help set up Chun's late heroics. He was able to finish out the game with a fly out and ground out with the tying run on first base to assist Tulane in the victory. Jude Abbadessa started for the Green Wave and allowed three runs in two innings. Jack Brafa allowed a pair of runs in an inning with a strikeout. Caden Tarango had a scoreless fourth with a strikeout. Aidan Rath surrendered a run in his 0.2 of an inning with a strikeout. Jacob Moore contributed a scoreless 1.1 innings with a strikeout. Tom Vincent tossed 0.2 of an inning with two hits allowed before giving way to Larson with a pair of runners on in the eighth.
Chun helped lead the offense for Tulane with a pair of hits and RBIs plus a run scored. Matthias Haas tallied three hits and three RBIs plus a run scored on his second home run of the season. Nate Johnson also had a pair of hits. Tye Wood scored a run and drew a walk. James Agabedis scored a run. Jason Wachs drove in a run with a ground out. Trent Liolios had a home run, an RBI, and a run scored. Elliott picked up a hit and scored the game-winning run. Kaikea Harrison walked twice and scored a run.
The loss went to Southern Miss's Teague Broadhead (0-1). Broadhead allowed a run in 0.2 of an inning in the eighth.
Southern Miss started the scoring with a run in the first inning on Joey Urban's 11th home run of the season.
The Golden Eagles added two runs in the second inning, 3-0, on an Lawson Odom RBI ground out followed by Ty Long's single through the left side.
Southern Miss added two runs to the advantage in the third, 5-0, on a solo home run from Kyle Morrison followed by a Tulane two-out throwing error to allow Matthew Russo to score from second.
Tulane broke through for four runs in the third inning. 5-4, on a Chun single up the middle, a Wachs ground out and a two-run single from Haas.
Southern Miss added a run to the lead, 6-4, on Russo's home run to center field in the fifth.
Tulane cut the deficit in half, 6-5, on a home run from Haas in the bottom of the frame. It was his second home run of the season.
The Green Wave tied the score in the bottom of the seventh inning on the two-out solo home run from Liolios. It was Liolios second home run of the season.
Next, Tulane gets on the road to take on conference foe Charlotte (20-24, 5-13 American) at Hayes Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina from May 1-3. Games times are 5 p.m. (CT), 3 p.m. (CT) and 12 p.m. (CT).
