
Men's Tennis Tops Nationally-Ranked UL-Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, La. - Tulane University rolled to a 5-2 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette in men's tennis action on Saturday morning at Cajun Courts.
Tulane (4-3), ranked No. 41 in the nation, lost the doubles point, despite a convincing 8-1 victory by freshman Michael Kogan (Kfar Saba, Israel) and senior Mikko Viljanen (Helsinki, Finland) at No. 1. The Tulane duo is ranked No. 7 in the nation and has not lost a match yet this season. However, No. 56 Louisiana-Lafayette rallied to earn the point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
In singles play, Tulane grabbed five of the six matches to secure the victory. Kogan was a straight set winner at No. 1, as were Viljanen at No. 3 and sophomore Jorge Lievano (Bucaramanga, Colombia) at No. 4. Mattias Westerberg dropped his first set, 5-7, but recovered to win the next two, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5. Goran Vasiljevic was a winner in three sets as well at No. 6.
Tulane returns to action on Tuesday, playing at No. 12 SMU.
