HOUSTON, Texas - - The Tulane women's tennis team won five of six singles matches to cruise to a 6-1 victory over Rice at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium on Saturday.
The Green Wave also won two of three matches in doubles play to take an early 1-0 lead. The Tulane tandem of Joyce Bergman and Julie Morris posted an 8-4 win over Rice's Jeri Gonzales and Yasmin Fisher at No. 1 doubles, while Anna Monhartova and Anneli Axsater were 8-6 victors against the Owls' Natalie Briaud and Annie Goodrich at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Tulane captured wins at all but the No. 5 spots as Monhartova, Morris, Bergman and Axsater also posted singles wins at the top four postions. The Wave's Olga Mikhailova also claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win over Goodrich at the No. 6 spot.
The win was Tulane's fifth in a row and improved the Wave to 7-9 overall. The Green Wave will return to action on Sunday, taking on Conference USA rival Houston.
