Men's Tennis Upends No. 47 Tulsa

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane University had an impressive showing in men's tennis action on Friday afternoon, defeating No. 47 Tulsa, 6-1, at the Harwell Tennis Courts.
The Green Wave, ranked No. 43 in the nation, improve to 8-8 with the victory, while Tulsa drops to 9-9.
The Wave opened the action by earning the point in doubles play. Tulane's No. 6 ranked doubles tandem of freshman Michael Kogan (Kfar Saba, Israel) and senior Mikko Viljanen (Vantaa, Finland), who have not lost a match all season, edged Tulsa's No. 30-ranked pair, 9-8. At No. 3, sophomores Victor Romero (Atizapan, Mexico) and Jorge Lievano (Bucaramanga, Colombia) earned an 8-5 decision to clinch the point.
In singles action, Kogan, ranked No. 42 in the nation, continued his strong play, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 1 over No. 54 Dana McGregor. Romero, Viljanen and Lievano all won in straight sets at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Sophomore Mattias Westerberg (Lulea, Sweden) had a come-from-behind win at No. 6 singles, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Tulane is back in action on Saturday, playing at Wichita State.
