
Men's Tennis Sweeps Southeastern Louisiana

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane University rolled to a 7-0 shutout victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Friday afternoon at Goldring Tennis Complex.
Tulane (5-5) opened the match by winning all three doubles matches to pick up the point. After winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, the tandem of senior Mikko Viljanen (Vantaa, Finland) and freshman Goran Vasiljevic (Varmo, Switzerland) had an exciting 9-8 victory at the top flgiht doubles. It was their first match together at doubles. Viljanen's usual doubles partner, freshman Michael Kogan (Kfar Saba, Israel), did not play in the match.
Sophomore Victor Romero (Atizapan, Mexico), subbing for Kogan at No. 1 singles, rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 victory, his third straight victory. Viljanen had a dominating performance at the second flight, winning, 6-1, 6-1.
Freshman Jorge Lievano (Bucaramanga, Colombia) and sophomore Mattias Westerberg (Lulea, Sweden) had straight set victories at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, while senior Derya Rose (Greenwich, Conn.) picked up his first singles triumph of the spring with a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 5. Vasiljevic won his sixth flight singles, 6-0, 6-1.
Tulane will be in action next week, playing at the Blue-Gray Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala. Action begins on Wednesday afternoon.
