AUBURN, Ala. - Tulane University earned an 18th place finish on the women's side and 19th for the men at the Auburn University Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at Indian Pines Golf Course. The event featured 30 schools and 488 runners.
The top finisher for the Green Wave women was sophomore Megan Whelton (New Orleans, La.), who placed 82nd of the 235 runners in the event. She covered the five-kilometer course in 18:50.67. Junior Carlyne Pradieu (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman Mandy Hopper (Charlotte, N.C.) were the second and third finishers for Tulane.
In the men's eight-kilometer race, Tulane was again led by senior Adam Leskis (Spokane, Wash.), who recorded a time of 25:20.90. He was followed by senior Mark Williams (Austin, Texas) and sophomore Joakim Daun (Klintehamn, Sweden).
The women's team winner was Virginia Tech, followed by host Auburn and Georgia Tech. For the men, SMU took the title, followed by Clemson and Georgia. The women's individual winner was Georgia Tech's Katie Griffin, who posted a time of 16:53.56. Dalibor Balgac from SMU won the men's individual title at 23:47.59.
Former Green Wave standout Solomon Kandie ran unattached in the meet, finishing fourth with a time of 23:56.17.
Tulane returns to action on November 2 when it runs at the Conference USA Championship in Hattiesburg, Miss.
