Tulane Set for Final Tests Before Conference Championships
Oct 15, 2026 | Cross Country
COLLEGE STATION, Texas & TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Tulane cross country program will split tomorrow for a pair of meets that will serve as the final tune-ups prior to the American Conference Cross Country Championships. The Green Wave men will partake in the Under Armour Pre-Nationals, hosted by Indiana State, while the women will run in the Arturo Barrios Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M.
Both the Green Wave men and women are ranked third in their respective south central regional polls. The women will hit the course first at 9:15 a.m. for the 6K race Friday morning in College Station, Texas. The meet is held at the Watts Cross Country Course. Approximately when the women's race is wrapping up, the Tulane men will get off and running at 9:40 a.m. CT at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana. The Pre-Nationals will feature two sets of races, a blue 8K and a white 8K. Tulane is racing in the blue 8K.
Tulane will be represented by 11 women and 12 men across the two meets. Competing in the Arturo Barrios Invitational will be Isla Bulmer, Petra Dos Santos, Sophia Galiano-Sanchez, Allison Hall, Haley Harper, Blezzin Kimutai, Morgan Matthews, Dorcas Naibei, Becky Osorio, Isabella Ramos, and Dana Rojas Vazquez. Running for the men at Pre-Nationals will be Bernard Cheruiyot, Ty Elliott, Juan Giron, Micah Grossman, Timothy Kibet, Paul James Pam, Daniel Reza, Tommy Rice, Gilbert Rono, Cooper Sorsen, and Conner Wingfield.
Last time out, a contingent from the women's team raced in the Nicholls XC Invitational on October 3. Despite not having enough athletes to garner a team score, all four competitors finished in the top six. Morgan Matthews led the way in the 5K race with a personal best of 18:35.3. The last time both teams were in action was the 47th Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational in Chicago on September 25. The women's team placed eighth in the 6K race as the men's squad finished fifth in the 8K. Bernard Cheuiyot won the race individually with a time of 22:37.20, second in program history to only himself. Petra Dos Santos led the Wave women with a mark of 19:52.02, placing 19th.
Tomorrow's races will conclude the regular season for Tulane as sights will then turn to the American Conference Cross Country Championships, which the Wave will host at Lake Oaks Park on October 31 in New Orleans. The women will look to repeat as conference champions while the men will look to take a step back up to the top as they were the runners-up last season.
